During a high-profile meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, President Donald Trump once again displayed zero tolerance for rude reporters. Ever since taking office in January 2025, the commander-in-chief has taken no prisoners when members of the press have acted out of line, banning some networks and publications from attending press events.
Journalists from left-leaning publications like CNN and MSNBC have routinely been a thorn in the side of the president, often allowing their political bias to dominate their interactions with him. This has consistently led to a state of high tension between the administration and the media.
NBC News reporter Peter Alexander was booted from the meeting between Trump and Ramaphosa held in the Oval Office for being rude, with the president referring to the individual as a “disgrace.”
The reporter asked Trump about previous statements he’s made about alleged violence being perpetrated against white farmers from South Africa. The commander-in-chief responded by reiterating his concerns and then slammed the journalist for biased coverage.
The incident was a reminder of the longstanding battle between Trump and mainstream media outlets, especially NBC and its affiliates. Talking heads and anchors from these networks have consistently portrayed the president in an unfair manner.

In 2023, Trump was so incensed by his treatment by NBC News and MSNBC that he threatened to take legal action against them for their alleged unfair reporting. He followed through on a similar threat made to CBS after they aired an edited interview of former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“CBS News is facing a $20 billion lawsuit from Trump over how it edited his former opponent Kamala Harris’ answer to a question on the U.S.-Israeli relationship in an October 2025 interview on ’60 Minutes,’” USA Today reported.
“Trump has long railed against the media, and the lawsuit against CBS is playing out amid several pushes from the administration that are alarming press freedom advocates. Here is what to know about the lawsuit,” the article continued.
“The lawsuit entered mediation last month, signaling that CBS’s parent company Paramount Global could choose to settle, raising concerns over how that may embolden the administration’s increasingly aggressive stance toward major media organizations, the New York Times reported,” the report said.
Trump fans are usually supportive of the actions he takes against the media, believing them to be part of a necessary stand against journalistic bias. Many argue that the president isn’t silencing speech, but holding reporters accountable for what they print or air on the news.
The president’s approach has crafted policy that has increased access for conservative outlets, podcasters, influencers, while going to war against the Associated Press or other left-wing news publishers when he feels it is necessary.
